All About Crafts

Yes, I am All About Crafts.
I can crochet (need a hat, a scarf? Anything brginner, I can do), bead (earrings? Necklace? Bracelet? Matching set?), duct-tape (need a wallet? I’m your gal!), etc. But when I looked up, “crafts free” (I have an Android), I was repeatedly led to, “All About Crafts”.
This small, but ultimately useless app, has a great into: a list of the major forms of crafting, most of which even I cannot do.
I quickly downloaded and was excited to begin my learning. I was expecting a brief description, along with an easy craft. (Maybe an Intermediate and Experienced.craft, as well.) I opened the first chapter, Sewing (my now ex-stepmom taught me when I was six years old). The app had a short, to the point intro. And then…
Nothing.
Not even a simple “sew your old T-shirt into a Pillow.”
Nada.
So I tried Chapter 2, Knitting.
Same thing.
Chapter 3, Quilting. Same.
And on and on.
What a waste.
I’m thinking of starting my own free site, with definitions of different types of crafts. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced projects. And lots of pictures.
What do you think?

  1. I think it’s a fantastic idea! One of the greatest advantages in digital tech is the way we get to create and share content with others, starting with the dearth of information we discover. Often that dearth begins with the kind of information we need ourselves. So go for it!

Also, thanks for following The Write Edge. I hope you find it interesting and informative. Have a wonderful week, and happy new year!

    1. Thank you! You are doing wonderful work at The Write Edge. I have only recently learned to accept the “help” being offered by others — whether in the form of craft ideas, writing suggestions, etc — and hope that my own small contributions can help others. I’m currently rewriting various posts (such as this one and my piece on duct tape wallets), adding pictures, links, and more detail.
The Write Edge has so many amazing posts that, rather than repost individually, I would like to write one post about your blog with links to some of my favorites. Would this be ok with you? Thank you in advance either way,
      Dee

      1. Dee, I am flattered and honored. I normally take down posts on The Write Edge every week to keep it current, so you won’t find posts from, say, three weeks ago, but you’re more than welcome to write about the blog overall. I’m also happy to participate in an interview if you’d like. So glad I can help!

      2. I received your email and wanted to apologize: I should have a draft and some questions ready by the weekend. Again, thank you for letting me “interview” you. The questions I have so far ask about you as a writer, how you started, what made you decide to do a blog like The Write Edge, etc. Basic; nothing too personal. 🙂
